The car is in good condition and low mileage for year so although I don't want to spend too much on it, it'd be interesting to know what I could do for increased performance and handling.

To increase handling.......Better tyres, wider wheels, however wider wheels aren't so great in the wet.To increase power, while you still don't have a clue, I'd suggest changing the exhaust system, including the cat. A de-cat wouold be best, but if you want to pass the MOT emissions I doubt a De-Cat would still let you pass.honestly, I'd leave it alone and get a bigger engined car. I suppose you could take out the rear seats and spare wheels and any extra weight, and drive round on half a tank of fuel, that would help a little and cost nothing. If you don't know what you're doing, take it to a garage or a tuning company, they'll sort you right out..........Think of the insurance though! As an after thought.........you could get it chipped or remapped, that would be pretty simple, but you would need the software or take it to someone who does, lots of gains that way

most honda engines are pretty much tuned to the max. u can get a high flow air filter, high flow exhaust, headers and get a few more horses. after that u are looking at big bucks to redo an engine with lighter pistons, and all the prep necessary to turbo it. u can put in different shocks/struts, bigger brakes etc but again u are running into bucks. its generally cheaper to find a car that is modified as the price of the car is going to be less than mod costs. one can never get back the money invested in all that speed. good luck, keep your greasy side down.
