...poping noise.? I took it to a local Honda repair dealer and they said that it was normal. Something to do with my Honda's ABS locks or something. Can someone help me? Is it true that this noise is normal or are they lying to me?The groaning noise you're indicating occurs right when the engine is turned on right? I think the noise I'm trying to detail is different and this is why I think my local Honda dealer might have diagnosed this incorrectly. The noise I hear occurs when I start to drive off. The noise is similar to an axle issue. The car "clucks" once right when I drive off.The groaning noise you're indicating occurs right when the engine is turned on right? the ABS test on the Honda runs once after each start up and does so within 15 seconds of driving forward. the test only runs once each ignition cycle and it makes a groaning or buzzing noise, so if you hear it one time and not again until the car is shut off and driven again, it should be the ABS test, although I've never heard the abs test noise described as a "pop"; its usually described as a groan or a buzz.their was also a common 'clunk' noise from the brakes when reversing directions when the car was moved after sitting parked for a while. that noise was common on the larger vehicles like the Odyssey and the CRV. I've not heard that complaint on the Civic after 2003.The dealer can use the Honda HDS tester to confirm the ABS self test is being run. My recommendation to you is that if you doubt that the noise is ABS related then arrange to leave the car overnight at the Honda dealer then meet with them in the morning, have the technician hook up the Honda tester to the car and then start the car and show them the noise while the tester is monitoring the ABS system. If the noise occurs when the ABS is running its self-test, you have your proof that the noise is normal. If it is not confirmed by then tester, that is, if the noise occurs independently of the ABS test, then the dealer should have the experience to go further in investigating the cause of your noise.I don't think the dealer is 'lying' to you; they are probably giving you their honest opinion but they may be viewing your concern in light of their experience base and they may be limited in that respect. I recommend you work with the dealer to identify the cause so that you are both satisfied with the outcome of the testinghope that helps
