i have a 1997 honda civic lx, and all the interior lights work, includeing the speedometer gauge. But i noticed that the other lights in the dash aren't on (the heater/ac buttons ect.), also the center consel where it says drive, rerverse, ect. has no lights on it either. i checked the fuses and the dimmer..they are all okay..so what do you think the problem is.

Little small bulbs. Most likely, #194 bulbs. Probably all blown out or have a bad ground somewhere. The easiest to remove would be the HVAC controls to check the buttons. Probably take an hour or so if you take your time and be careful. Those cars pretty much snap together and the little plastic clips break easily.

check owners manual you may have another fuse box your not aware of or have you had a stereo or such installed or has anyone done work on your car and might had shorted out a fuse link,get your self a test light and start tracing i would check main harness if fuses are ok

you just need to change the bulbs.

check fusses, more then likely change all at the same time because once they start going out you will need to keep doing it.
