To get a sunroof put in my car? It doesn't have one, and I want one in it so bad! I have a 1998 Honda Civic LX. I live in Sherman Oaks, CA. Any ideas on pricing? Thanks.

you are looking at about 700-1500 depending on what you want and who you go with.

I did that to my Honda CRX years ago when I bought it new. I think it was about $1,000 (but you should get a few estimates from different custom shops). I got my thru the dealer. FYI, it WAS cute & I did love it -- BUT the friggin' thing leaked from day one! I was told that if cars don't come with a sunroof factory-installed at the time of assembly, putting one in is never a perfect job. Oh, then one winter, I parked my car in a nice lot behind some fancy apartment buildings (while having dinner with my family); we heard a loud crash -- a GIGANTIC piece of ice fell off one of the buildings & crashed right thru my custom sunroof, crushing the seat & steering wheel! Anyone seated there would have been killed instantly. It cost a fortune to repair the damace since it wasn't covered by insurance becuase it was caused by "an Act of God." I know you live in Calif., but other things could come crashing thru -- a metal car top provides protection to the occupant(s). Good luck!

DONT GO TO A DEALER , they will cost alot more at dealerships.. go to a custom shop or some kind of auto repair place..

Sunroof looks cool! If you are really bent on getting one please remember the following:1.) Ask those you know who already done it with their car. How was the workmanship? Is it worth it?2.) Get a reputable shop who does it often because they know what they are doing. The cost is around USD1,200.00 ++. Don't ever get a cheap one it will just give you eternal problems.3.) There are two (2) kinds of sunroof, the first is the one that partially opens manually the second one is motorized. The motorized on costs more and is heavier on the roof.4.) All civic configurations are capable of sun or even moon roof. But those models that are already stock with sunroof has a more reinforced roof/ceiling to accommodate load.5.) After installation, leak proof your unit for water intrusion.6.) Ask for a guarantee for leaks and what is the warranty (6mos, 1 year, etc.).Finally after all of that remember to always lock it because it could be an entry point for thieves.
