Default Is my gas mileage low?

I have an 04 Civic LX and currently getting about 320m before the fuel light comes on.Doing the math that comes to about 28mpg. I'm pretty sure thats low, but wanted to ask others who might own or know about this car.I do most of my driving in highway conditions, usually not over 65mph.I do live in 29palms,ca which has an altitude of over 2500ft. I checked tire pressure, fluids, changed spark plugs and air filter. Anything Im missing, am i just being paranoid?i dont want to hear whining form people who drive vehicles like hummers. no1 told you to buy an uneconomical car and if you can afford to make payments then obviously you knew how much youd be spending on gaswould i have to do a diagnostic computer check to see whats going on w my fuel lines?

New car or used? If the car came from another altitude, the timing and fuel mixture may be incorrect. A dealer can check that for you.

That's actually pretty good. I consider a car pretty decent if it gets mid 20s. Some commercials for cars that get low 30s use their "high mpg" as a main sales pitch. A lot of SUVs get high teens. I know my Jeep Wrangler gets about 18, and a Jeep Cherokee gets 16. Hybrids get high 50s, but well, they're hybrids.

Thats definetly low for a civic, expecially with the highway driving. Take it to a dealer, have them check it out.

what type of driving do you do? Stop n go, Highway or mixed. 28 sounds like a good average for that car. Its a 2004 car have you had it since new? Is it getting worse mileage then before? there are too many unanswered varriables to give a direct answer.

I have an '04 malibu and when I was doing mostly highway miles, I was averaging about 32 mpg. So really, your mileage isn't too bad.BTW...I'm planning on an H3 either in the fall or spring...I konw how bad gas mileage will be, but then again, I'm no longer driving a minimum of 70 miles a day as I did for nearly 4 years and after totalling 3 cars (the last included bouncing off 3 semis among other vehicles), I'd feel much safer in a larger vehicle.
