Default engine question? (honda accord)?

what other accord engine fits in a 96 and a 98 because i was wondering if a 02 accord engine will fit in its older brother a 96 or if it will fit better in a 98 thanks in advance

if it fits the 98 would be the better choice...there may be different electrical wiring hookups as well as a computer (ECU) program problems

They are all the same. The 3.0 litre had some modifications through the years, but as far as size they will be fine. Tranny is a different question though, make sure your tranny is compatible by calling your local Honda dealer's service department, they have shop manuals that answer that question. My bet is everything will be fine, the platform is the same it is the universal platform for Honda.

The '96 Accord is a 5th generation model, whereas years '98-'02 represent the 6th generation Accord. There are substantial differences between generations & few things about them will be compatable...especially engine swaps. However, '98 &'02 engines should swap w. minimal issues. Starting in '00, Accords were equipped w. solid state ignition...superior to earlier distributor/rotor assemblies. Engine swaps of this sort would not provide any cost-effective gains...better to rebuild or build-up the car's existing motor.

yes it fits, better with the 98, but a 96 will do too.
