how to remove stock radio from 1997 honda civic ex?

you'll have to take off the center console their should be a few screws holding it on. then you unscrew the head unit from the front, pull it out and disconnect the wiring harness. very very simple

I don't have to do that but my 97 accord has a funky display that lights everything up and puts on a light show with the station buttons. I'm ready to replace. The units are good sounding but honda wants about $700 for a stock replacement. something about proper electrical requirments. Hogwash maybe.
