It's a big black box in the engine bay, theres some screws or clamps holding it down. You remove them, there's the filter, take it out, vacumme the box out if it's dirty (sand and dust like to gather sometimes) and replace.

look in the owners manual. The 2000 Civic LX owners manual has instructions on how to change air filter, though im not sure about the 01 model.
