The Japanese parts are more expensive than American parts but if you do some creative shopping you can get them cheap still. I have found tht E-bay has the best prices on parts as long as you can wait a couple of weeks for them. Junkyards generally charge the same amount for any car. The bad (and good) thing is that there are much less Japanese cars in junkyards so you might have a hard time finding parts there. Honda and Toyota cars are both very reliable and even if the parts costs more usually you will spend less on repairs because you will have to make less of them when compared to an American car. Toyotas tend to be more comfortable and passanger oriented while Hondas tend to be funner to drive and driver oriented.

Japanese parts are more expensive....but there is no comparison in terms of quality. Americans make parts that last about as long as the warranty.....they are bean counters. The Japanese parts are engineered and built to last. Honda and Toyota parts have simillar pricing.

I think, then, toyota parts are higher than honda parts as manifested on the high demands for it during the last decade. However, maybe due to that high demands, some manufacturers of these are neglecting the quality that should have went to their products. Perhaps, that's why today, honda parts are selling.
However, there are still manufacturers that produces high quality toyota parts. |

I don't know about Honda vs. Toyota, but I do know that Honda parts for my 1989 Accord are TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS, and seem more expensive then my luxury $60,000 1989 BMW 735.
My examples are: Power steering hose: expected price: $10, Honda price: $300, price paid (aftermarket): $30. Gas tank cap: expected price: $3, Honda price: $30, price paid (aftermarket): $3. Air conditioning compressor: expected price: (unknown), Honda price: $800, price paid (aftermarket): $400. Windshield glass: Expected price: $100 installed. Honda price: $800 glass only. Price paid: $100 installed. Floor mats: expected price: $100/set, Honda price: they didn't bother to make the mats available only 5 years later, BMW price: $140/set, still available 19 years later. It seems to me that the Honda parts are 10x what I expect. I have been extremely disappointed in our Honda Accord and would not buy another Honda. $300 for a power steering hose simply defies belief, as does the $30 gas tank cap. The one thing I notice that Honda does well is they offer very nice alloy wheels on many of their cars. Last edited by LarryBrown : 06 Aug 2009 at 01:02 am. |
