Default How can you test to see if you have all wheel drive on a vehicle, without getting it stuck?

I have a 2003 Honda element and i was told it was all wheel drive, it is not the 4 WD model. I think they were just trying to sell me a car.

Go to the Honda Web page, look up the model and year and check what options were available for that vehicle. Otherwise crawl underneath and look for a transfer case and drive line heading toward the front of the vehicle.

There is NOT a 4 wheel drive version of the element. They are either 2 wheel drive or All wheel drive. If it's all wheel, there will be a little tag that says it on the back window.....lower left corner. The VIN number also indicates what it is.

Element do come w/ AWD but not 4WD.The main different is AWD available all the time but in ONE gear setup only and is good enough for normal driving condition. However, 4WD can be Full-Time or Part-Time w/ High & Low gears and can go rock climbing.

Crawl underneath the rear end and see if there is a driveshaft linking the transaxle in the front with the rear axle. If not, it is two wheel drive.

Okay to set everything clear the Element comes with a 4WD package in the LX and EX trims,(same on the CR-V that comes with a 4WD package in the Lx, Ex and the Ex-L Trims)here is the Standard Features for a 2007 4WD LX Manual TransmissionTechnical Features• 166-hp, 2.4-Liter, 16-Valve DOHC i-VTEC® 4-Cylinder Engine• 5-Speed Manual Transmission• Real Time 4-Wheel Drive™• Unit-Body Construction• Drive-by-Wire™ Throttle System• Front and Rear Stabilizer Bars• LEV-2 CARB Emissions Rating• Control-Link MacPherson Strut Front Suspension• Compact Double Wishbone Rear Suspension• Power-Assisted 4-Wheel Disc Brakes• 100,000 Miles-or-More Tune-Up IntervalThe way you can tell it is that go to the rear of the car, bend down and see if you can see the rear differential and the axles.
