about 60K before it needs a new timing belt and 120 k before it needs alternator, water pump, battery, etc etc the engine and drive train could last 100s of K if taken care of but all the little things will give into time and miles.

This is mainly up to the driver. If you take care of the cars' maintenance and drive sensibly. You may never have to change the engine as long as you own it.

My friend delivers prescriptions for pharmacies and bought the frst model of the CR-V to hi the market and he puts on an average close to 180 miles a day 7 days a week on his car.So far he is upto close to over 450 thousand miles and he does all the required oil changes and maintenacne required by the manufacutre and it doesn't burn a drop of oil..the only thing he says he's ever had to change on his CR-v was a set of tires and break pads and a few ball joints and he says they are very reasonably priceds..So like all honda vehicles they can last a long long time if you just take care of them..I used to have a mazda 323 brand new back in 1986 and i drove that thing as a second work vehicle and when i finally put it to rest it had over one million miles on it and still ran pretty good but the clutch and body where shot...so just goes to show you that mazda motors are as solid as a tank..

This is a little bit like asking how long is a piece of string. However Japanese cars today are capable of over 300000kms easily (180000miles) without requiring the head to be removed for major work. However it is linked also to the maintenance, type of running and how the car has been treated/driven. Unfortunately when we buy a used car we dont really know what went on in its previous life.I have known several people who have run into or near the 300000km mark that have owned the cars from new. I think this would be a good figue to have in your mind.
