Default honda civic estate petrol car ....high mileage??

Im just thinkin of buying a honda civic estate vtec (1999 year) .....it has 12 months mot and 5 months tax. the abs sensor has just been done for the mot....it has a couple of dents and minor scratches, but other wise fine. i've driven it and it seems (to uneducated ears) to sound fine. My question is, at 155 000 miles, is this too much for the £1000 asking price......am i likely to just get problem after problem with this many miles

The car itself isn't bad, but at this price with that many miles, walk away. £500 is enough to pay for something similar with such a lot of miles.

Thats a lot of car for the money, if she has been serviced properly everything should be OK for a while (i would guesstimate to 190k at least) providing all service has been done especially belts and oil. I know taxis that have had over 200k from ford sierras so the Honda should be fine. Maintenance is everything with a engine! Have a mechanic check it or do the simple checks yourself like looking for oil in the coolant/blue smoke when starting etc. Good luck.

Although Honda's are well known for reliability, I'd be worried about the high mileage, because something expensive might need replacing after you have bought it.If it was a diesel, that would be OK. Diesels are capable of much higher mileages than petrol (sturdier construction because of higher compression ratio).

That is cheap, i am surfing autotrade for a 1.5 LS Civic and a 122000 miles one cost around 1500 pounds 1998 as well. As long as the car has FSH then being a HOnda should be fine, you might need to change ignition coil though and make sure all belts are changed at 60000 (another words has 2 changes) and also all oil are changed at correct times.
