yea baby SOHC WITH VTEC cuz sohc with vtec is vetter cuz vtec is help ur rpm gain faster and make ur car boosted up more...to red line and shifted....dohc with non vtec is kinda weak cuz dohc is just cam doest mean anything and sohc u can have a cam and an extra program to make ur engine work on both cam and vtec.....and is run smoother with vtec due to the timing of the shift ....and vtec have 2 special cam which is.....one work with low rpm from 1000rpm to 3100 rpm and high rpm work from 3100rpm to 6000rpm and the vtec can give you both power of different rpm at same time....or in my own opinion if you dont like sohc vtec u can upgrade to DOHC WITH vtec and have both !!

the f22a1 has is the worst of those engine w/ only 134hp and 142lb/tq considering it is only a sohc and it doesn't have vtec...the h23a1 is a little better has 160hp and 156 lb/tq because it is dohc but still doesn't have vtecthe h22a is the beast that i would go with cranking out an astounding (for 4 cyclinders...especially in those days) 190hp and 158 lb/tq with dohc and vtec (and thats with less displacement than the h23...haha sucker)f22 is a cheap upgrade to some cars but will get smoked by a h23a1 (both being stock of course) any day but pay the really money and get a performance engine with the h22a

depending on personal preference, some people prefer a Honda with VTEC because of how popular the two connected together. Regardless of what, i'd still get the H23a non-VTEC over the F22 engine any day. Dual cams, if modified will make the powerband smoother and much more tuning friendly compares to single cam. Though it might not have high revving capacity and flow of a VTEC head, it can produce serious torque at lower rpm, which is more suitable for daily driving, and for such a heavy chassis like the prelude because torque is what moves your car.Either choice, you can still add a H22a DOHC VTEC head to both engine, despite the fact that the F22 is a single cam engine. People been doing it for years now, with great results. go on Honda-tech.com for more info.DOHC > SOHC. some people hate to admit this fact maybe because sohc is what they have, so most online answers are biased.

SOHC with VTEC. Honda builds VTEC and that has been one of the world's best engines for several years now. Only Honda makes VTEC but most cars have a DOHC engine car. If it's a Honda, it doesn't really matter because you're getting a good car either way.
