For $3000, you're not looking at much when it comes to Honda. for $5000 maybe. Whatever you find for $3000 will most likly be in rough shape and not worth the money. I work in a garage, and from what i've seen, whatever car is bought cheaply, was sold cheaply because of a reason. Either its old and has no value, or its new and has been mis maintained. I, personally, would go for an older car that has been maintained, rather then a new car that has not been. An older car doesn't mean that it is high milage. I'll use my truck as an example. I drive a 1989 Ford Ranger, Good over all shape, minor scratch here, minor dent there, minor rust in the usual places, and it runs like brand new. It has 188 200km on it, that equals roughly 10 500km on it per year, low milage. Before I bought it from a family friend (who maintained it up to the day he sold it, he loved it, it was his baby, he nearly cired handing over the keys), I was looking at a 2000 Ford Ranger. It was in execelent body shape and ran good, it was at 150 000km, that equals about 21 500km per year, a little higher then average, which is about 20 000km per year. My point is, just because a vehicle is newer doesnt' mean that its any better. Milage isn't everything, age isnt' everything and condition isn't everything. Together they make up the vehicle, if one isn't worth it, then the vehicle isnt' worth it, generally speaking. Don't let price be your guide, you have to take everything into account.

You're not going to get something that new for that little. I got a nice '96 accord for $4000, and it was a steal. Then I got a '92 prelude for $3200. Hondas are good cars and if they're properly maintained they'll last decades. You get what you pay for, though, so if you go a little older it'd be closer to your price range, but may not be as shiny. It could still run beautifully, though. My prelude is still in great shape. I do miss my accord, though. It got totalled through absolutely no fault of my own.
