maybe... the # of valves per say doesn't make a motor faster... One of the most powerful is the 2 valve Chevy.. different makers use different ways of getting horsepower and emissions.right

that depends, how many cc's is your engine compared to the 8 valve engine. just because your have more valves also doesn't mean you have more horse power. what is the gearing of your car to the 8 valve car? what is the weight of each car.if we knew what kind of cars these were we would be better able to answer this question

4 valves per cylinder is a way of getting lots of vavle area without a lot of inertial mass in the valvetrain, allowing higher revs. Higher revs may lead to higher horsepower. If all else is the same, 4 valves build more power than 2 vavles.

In theory 16 valves should be a more powerful engine but it depends on the engine. Why 16 instead of 8 assuming a 4 cylinder car? Instead of a single inlet and exhaust valve each cylinder has two pairs. This means it can breath easier and should be able to suck more fuel in faster and remove the exhaust quicker too.If the valves are smaller then they can move faster because of the reduced weight.

the # of valves does not equate to faster speeds

Usually yes because the engine can brethe better. It is a valve per cylinder as opposed to 2 or 3. These are called DOHC engines and yes the horse power is usually higher because of air intake and better combustion.

Number of valves is a secondary issue - overall design and manufacturing quality is way more important. With everything else being equal, 4 valves allow more precisely tuned "breathing" - fuel/air supply and exhaust.
