Default Can you make a copy of a Honda car key?

A Honda car was stolen and they can't figure out how the car was started. Can car keys be duplicated or are there microchips or something in the keys so that only original keys work?

Depends on the year, if it is an older one someone could have swiped the keys and taken them to a hardware store and have them copied, but I'm pretty sure there's no chips in the key, but I don't know for the newer ones.

Theives can write down your VIN number, take it to a Honda dealership that doesn't care about checking proof of ownership, and get a replacement key made.
