How much will it cost to get a spare key made for my 2001 Honda Civic, I already have a working key?
I already have on key that is programmed and working. I just wanted to get a spare key for the car and was wondering how much it would cost at a dealer

weren't you given 2 keys and a 'valet' key when you bought the car ??? You need to get the keys at a dealers, they're 'smart' keys and use a chip...depends on what it costs your dealer...all dealers are different...call Honda corp and see...it's an 800 number.

you can get a spare key made from wal mart but it will only unlock the doors. If you want a key that will start the car you will have to go to the honda dealer because every time you put your key into the ignition the car gives the key a code and if it doesnt match up then the car wont start.

I have a 2001 Accord and when I went to the dealer to ask for a key they told me it costs about $300.00 to get one because they need to program the key's chip.

the key and programming is gonna cost about $160. they will re-program your existing key at the same time. you have a chip in the key that works w/your immobilizer in the steering column. that's why the car won't start if you get the key from a hardware store (they don't have "chip" keys, they're generic). the key is about $60-$70 and the programming is about $90 or so. with tax, it should be around $160.
