no, i usualy shift at 4000rpm. if your driving fast then wait till you get to 6500 to shiftwhat will hurt your engine is downshifting too soon and overreving the engine. dumping the clutch in first is hard on the transmision. happy driving

What will hurt your engine is shifting once you reach the redline. Once and a while you should be fine but any prolonged time at redline could be dangerous( ie engine failure). At 4000 you still should have about 2000-3000 rpm left to play with depending on your engines redline. Look at the manufacturers specs for most cars the peek HP is just below redline. For example a honda civic Peek HP is at 6300 RPM. redline is at 6800 RPM. Dont worry you wont hurt nothing. But you will use more gas. Shifting at lower RPM will save alot of fuel. SHifting at 2500 RPM = less fuel use and less power - No engine troubleShifting at 6000 RPM = More HP and torque and more fuel used - No engine troubleShifting above redline = same as above but you could ruin your engine

It depends on what vehicle you are talking about. For a Honda, for instance, it's perfectly fine, and will not hurt anything. For a ford, it's OK too because it cannot be hurt more than it already was hurt at the factory... it may just stop rattling, grinding, squeaking by quitting running.
