It will start smoking and then stop running. If this has happened just drain the fuel tank fill with gas and cycle the key on and off and let the electric fuel pump push the gas through to the injectors. It may smoke a bit but it will not harm your engine or fuel system. Good luck.

The fuel tank will have to be drained. Replace the fuel filter. Flush out the fuel lines and fuel rails. You probably didn't damage the engine. I have cleaned out the fuel systems of gasoline cars that have had diesel fuel put in by mistake. I have never seen it damage an engine. You will also have to clean or replace the spark plugs. It usually doesn't do any harm to the fuel pump either.Good luck!

It will not harm your engine in anyway. It will probably not run for long due to the very high heat value of diesle fuel your plugs will not be able to ignite the diesle. To get the diesle out, the best thing to do is drain your tank and either crack the injectors and bleed the diesle in your fuel pump out or just run the little bit of diesle that is left in your fuel pump(this will not hurt anything). Now you probably would not have to change your filter because all that does is filter the dirt ect. out. The dielse can not hurt your filter.Diesle is a fuel also. It isnt like running water through your engine. Its almost like running a really high octane gasoline in your car. So to save you some time just drain your fuel tank. Fill back up with gas and crank your car till it starts again.

You will damage your engine really fast untill it breaks down. You will neeed to take it to a garage immediately so they could flush and clean the system.

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. I thought gas stations put in different type pump handles for deisel so that this couldn't happen.I agree with the other posters. Drain the tank and replace filter, clean the injectors and check the plugs just in case.

Isn't that difficult to do when the nozzles are different sizes. The diesel nozzle won't fit through the collar of a standard gas tank..
