Do Headers change the sound of your car? Do they make your car sound deeper? Also, does anyone know where I can find a cheap set of headers that fit my 1996 Honda Civic with a D16Y7 motor. (4-Door). One last question, do they make your car noticeably faster?

Race cars use tuned headers but I don't think the speed difference is noticeable. Tuned headers do sound much better especially if you change the rest of the exhaust system. A lot of hondas use megaphones that make them sound like a ferrari.

Headers wont change the sound at all if you still have the rest of you exhaust factory. But if you change the rest headers will change to a deeper and louder sound. Normally you start with the muffler or a cat back then the converter and last headers. 'Out of all the exhaust componets the headers make the most HP but only if you change the rest 1st. Think about it, the exhaust is trying to escape, it passes the headers easily but it still has to go through all the restrictive factory components after. But do it the other way around and itll make since. To find all the brands that make parts for Honda go to www.procivic.com you can find all kinds of parts thier. I go thier for my 06 civic parts.

On the sounds aspect of the matter it will change a hair. for one you are changing from a cast header to a aluminum header setup. the sound resonation will be greater but if u are going to run a cat and a factory ehaust it will not make a difference. because one the cat will act as a baffle and will numb down the sound and seconly the factory ehaust system is a thicker material with baffles in it so it will be quiet. but if you are after the sounds aspect. i am assuming that u do not have an intake. just gut out the resonator boxes on ur intake and this will change the sound of your engine. not to say will help the flow of your engine. i have done this to a lot of cars and the sound quality if great. it makes the engine sounds built and tune. but if you want a header it will change it a hair. just basic common sense. you are changing the material and changing the path of flow. air coming out of the engine is turbulance and it will bounce and resonate throughout the exhaust system. but i think the sound difference is not that big. since you are wanting exhaust sounds it will depend on the rest of the system. but if u want engine sound do the air intake work it will seem like you have awaken a beast. i have included a link to a exhaust system from ebay. look on honda tech. these exhaust header tend to go for real cheap used. if u look u can prolly find it for about 100 to 150. i hope this helps..haitech

I have The Same car you do -- When i put headers on, along with a completely new 2.5 inch exhaust is made a sound difference, But not that much in the Performance. I also took the Cat out and put a specific type of resistor in line with the Second O2 sensor, to trick in into thinking there was still a good Cat. After I did that you could feel a difference at high RPM. I just recently put a t25 turbo in, its small but makes a real noticeable difference. If you would like to buy my old headers from me I would be glad to sell.. They are a 4-2-1 setup Put about 20K on them but they are Tip Top. E-mail me if you want pics of them. mared08@students.sunysuffolk.eduprice NEG maby like 70 bux
