I have 70K miles on the car (7 years old) and owner manual says to change the timing belt at 105k or 7 years. When is the good time to change the timing belt ? Honda dealer is asking for $900 to change it (including water pump and belts). Is it that expensive ?Appreciate your help - thank you

exactly why you dont go get stuff like that done at a honda dealership , thas way too expesnive for al lthat! as far as your timing belt, if you know where it is check it yourself if it looks worn or torn then change it!

Now would be a good time, timewise, to change the timing belt. Even if you didn't meet the mileage limit, in 7 yrs you may have beat the car down due to stop and go driving.I don't know anyone who can truly look at that belt and make a call as to when it will break. Suit yourself.$900 is about right for changing the belt and water pump, per the dealership. Up to you if you want to shop around for this. Water pump can only be accessed by removing the timing belt, so they like to do this at the same time. Only thing more expensive is if the belt snaps and the valve stems are bent as a result.

Guessing your car is a V6 given the timing belt replacement interval recommended by your manual and the price the dealer quoted you.I recommend to change your Timing belt around 80K to be on the safe side weather a 4cyl or 6cyl. Price should be around $650 including timing belt, water pump, tensioner and drive belts. Quote of 900 from the dealership is pretty steep, especially since they haven't started so it could end up being more.

i would say do it between 80-100k, if the belt snaps pistons going to bent and something might go wrong with your engine. i really think that 900 is pretty expensive. got my water pump and belt for about 150 at the honda dealer and brought it to my friends friend and he's willing to do it for 120. but think it would save you around 300 if you buy the parts from honda dealer and bring it into a shop

It is recommended that you change the timing belt at 90K or 6 years. Which ever comes first. You are due for a replacement. Get it done soon. A broken timing belt CAN cause engine damage. Following items should also be replaced along with the timing belt.1. cam seal(s)2. crank seal3. balancer shaft seal4. oil pump o-ring5. balancer shaft belt6. tensioner7. waterpump8. all accessory beltsIf it includes all of the items listed above, $900 is an excellent price. If not, let me know. I will tell you whether it is fair or not.
