It's about 1000-1200 at a shop, but if you are handy and have some tools you can get one at a junkyard for 100 or so. It's always a crapshoot and you need to have somebody help, but you can save some money. If you have a shop rebuild it make sure the warranty is a good one. The car is worth it - Accords can run forever.

first check the vin # with a honda dealer and see if your vehicle is eligible for a transmission warranty extension. this warranty is good for up to 7 years or 109k whiever comes first. If you aren't the original owner, but you have performed routine maintenances to your car, and your car has more than 109k, you can call Honda directly and try to get assistance. other than that, rebuilding is gonna run around $2000. i don't suggest rebuilding. go remanufactured. everything inside the trans is new. they only reuse the case itself. this cost around $3200 but replaced at honda, you get a 3yr or 36k miles, whichever comes first.

Is the check engine light on??If so...I would call your local dealer and check to see if your tranmission is covered under warranty... first... If it is not then I would take it to a reputable mechanic and get it rebuilt. Honda had a problem with quite a few of the tranmissions with some of the 2000's. Most Transmissions are covered I'm pretty sure 3years or 30,000 miles but the selet few are covered till 100,000 miles. If you have owned more then one honda and you are just shy of the warranty milage then I would ask to talk to the warranty rep. for the dealer you may have to wait a couple of days because the rep. does not work at the dealer he works for american Honda and visits all the local dealers. But he may be able to help with the transmission. If not I would get it rebuilt not a new one from the dealer! The dealer will rip you off if you get one from them. They usally run from the dealer 3-4,000. If you get one rebuilt from an GOOD mechanic then you should be able to get it for about 2,000 for a 4cyl and about 2500-3000 for a 6cyl. If not... I would go get it checked out a second time from someone else.
