Yes it is safe! haha look at iihs.org and its rated safest compact car. I don't own one, but want one! I have done a lot of research on it and it is a very good car. According to edmunds.com, familycar.com caranddriver.com and iihs.org.

It's one of the best small cars out there and Honda builds them right the first time.

Yes I do own a Honda Fit. It's a blue sport model. I think it's the best car I've ever owned. It's very reliable and safe. Previously I've owned a Mazda Protege3, Ford Focus ZX3, and Toyota Tercel, so I am quite familiar with smaller cars. I love having a hatchback, because it's easy to put things in the back. The Fit has fold down seats in the back to accomodate even more storage space. The ABS brakes are great. So is the stereo. I got it right when the car was released in the U.S., so it's almost been a year. The insurance is a good price because of the safety features and size of the vehicle. There's air bags all over in it. Gas milage is awesome! It's not a hybrid, but this is the next best thing to it. Emissions are low. People have actually rolled down their car windows and asked me where I've bought my car and how much it was! There are only a few drawbacks. No center consoleTires are still kinda smallOil changes have been a little pricey and difficult getting done at places other than the dealership because a lot of places don't have the supplies for this model yet.Bottom line- buy it if you can get your hands on one...
