Default California honda motor swap question?

I have a 2000 civic ex, d16 with a 5 spd manual. I want to swap in a gsr or a k20a2. What has to happen after I swap the motor to make it smog legal? Please explain the bar ref. Do I have to have a motor newer than my car?yeah I found out most of what I need to know and I will be going with a b18c, aka ITR.

Why don't you go to the Highway patrol and ask them or ask a local tuner shop that does swaps they'll have all the answers for you. All I know is that if you have aftermarket parts your car will get towed away but if you just have an stock swap it's cool.

If you're going with a b18c5, make sure the ECU you'll be using is an AMERICAN ITR ECU, otherwise the ref will fail you on the visual. Basically, he will look over your car and make sure all the smog equipment is for a US ITR, or a part that is CARB approved for a US ITR. Once you pass the visual, they'll toss it on the sniffer and make sure it passes under the US ITR standards. So refs are more strict than others, but you can go back once for free, and retests are pretty cheap.

b series i good choice over the k series in your EX. Should bolt right up to your chassis.
