if its a vtech it would sayit on the valve cover...but u can also look at the back of the head by the intake u will see a lump i guess u would call it its the vech sol...i know not a good description but ask the guy to show u the v tech selinoid...if he cannot then its not vtec

If the engine really is the d16y8 then it is v-tec. Unless it is a swap, the trim should be Ex.
