Default How good is a kia rio vs. a Honda Civic (as far as reliablility and gas mileage)?

I found a 2005 Kia rio sedan for 7000 with 23000 miles on it. However, I know that Honda civics can last a long time as long as you mantain them. Could this be true for a Kia rio as well? I don't know anything about kia's.

I would much rather own a Honda Civic than a Kia Rio, parts are easier to come by and they hold up very well for around 250,000 miles.

Never buy a Korean car. They do not take pride in their work as the Japanese. a Japanese businessman believes that family honor is supreme.

Honda - without question. It also holds resale value. Kia does not.

Kias are good cars, there are alot of happy Kia owners if you look. They are getting more and more popular over the years. Soon they will build a factory in the US in Georgia. The only thing if you buy used is that you don't get the benefit of the 10yr/100,000 warranty that you get with a new one. But Kias are reliable cars, they've come a long way and are only getting bigger.

i dont know how they compare on gas mileage. as for reliability you cant compare a Kia Rio or any Kia to the Civic. generally you get what you pay for. if you go for a used Civic beware of "mods" you dont want a car that some punk kid try to "pimp it, or rice it up". Try looking on www.autotrader.com for used Kias and see what the highest mileage is. look at older ones and look for details of what repairs have been done or what parts have been replaced. good ads will tell buyers what work has been done. you need to also figure out what you need. are you keeping this car for 5-10 years? a Kia may be well suited for your needs or a Civic it depends on what you want. What you save in purchase price may be spent on maintenance and/or repairs.

Hi Christine. I had a KIA before and almost got killed because of brake failure. It was just a 3 year old car and had so much problem. My friend told me that the reason why KIA isn't good is because it stands for Killed-In-Action (KIA). That's what almost happened to me. So in the year 2000 right after I sold my KIA, I bought a 1993 Honda Civic EG Hatch from my officemate who until today regrets selling it. I had minimal maintainance and as of today it never failed me or stopped at the road. I consume around 12Kms per Liter (city driving) & 14kms per Liter (Highway driving). I kept it neat and clean and inspite of being an old car I catch people looking at it. I have two (2) serious buyers waiting for me to sell it and they are going to convert it for street racing. But right now I'm happy with it. Good luck and hope I helped a little. Cheers.
