I have a 2000 civic EX. Apparently the oil light was not working, and while driving the car, I suddenly heard a knocking sound emitting from the engine. I checked the oil and there was nothing! I put 2 quarts of oil which made the knock go away for a minute or two, but when I finally started driving the car, the knock became worse and worse, especially when I accelerate. I dont know what it is. please any suggestions.

Stuck lifters, frozen connecting rod bearings that caused the connecting rod to brake, bent push rod, frozen push rod.

Sounds bad (literally!). I suspect that it's too late for your poor engine. No oil is usually murder for the bearings and if they're making noise then you've no alternative but to have your engine rebuilt or to have a replacemnt unit installed.

I had the same problem in mine. In my case it turned out to be the neighbors cat was stuck in the fan belt, but since you said you checked under your hood, i assume it isn't a cat in your case.

Your engines blown. Or atleast its going to blow. My 1999 civic lx engine did the same thing. Sell it while the engine still works. That or it's time you got an engine swap. =]

DONT DRIVE THE CAR!!! your steering joints are going out!!! they can go out while your driving and may cause you to lose control. GET TO A MECHANIC!

YEAH. DON'T DRIVE THE CAR, BUD. BITE THE BULLETT AND HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER.

Have it looked at it should be ok Hondas are good cars.Tow it to Honda, Good luck!

Sounds like it's shot. If you're really an ***hole you can put some stop knock in it and sell it to one of those crappy local dealerships so that someone else gets the problem. Otherwise, you're probably looking at about $500-$750 to rebuild the top end, since if one thing went out, you're going to want to rebuild the other parts as well.
