Default My Del Sol is having transmission problems. Will someone please help?!?

Honda Del Sol sohc D15 fwd 5spd manual w/manual steering. all the fluid levels are correct, and the vehicle has been meticuously maintained. New trans fluid.I'm hearing a sound, like a rotating slightly grinding sound, when I let the clutch out, but it doesn't make the sound with the clutch pressed in. Which makes me think it's the throw-out bearing... But when I'm driving and the car is in gear it doesn't make the sound until around 2300-3100 RPMs in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. And not at all in 4th or 5th. However, I haven't had the tach over 4000 in any gear since the problem started. Now, when I'm up to speed there is no noise, but when I slow down I hear a knocking grind, like rotational grind from lack of lubricant, with the clutch in OR out while in NEUTRAL, 1st, 2nd or 3rd I hear the sound until the car stops but not when its in 4th or 5th, when it does stop it slows as the car does until there is no sound at a stand still. The 2 noises are different, but I believe related...

There is nothing you can do without taking it apart, so bring it to a mechanic before it gets manual transmissions tend to have strange problems, I had a ton with my integra and accord. I ended up getting a used jeep after the problems started costing as much as a beamer payment.

dont listen to anyone else man!!! I have the same car same problem 100% I know this car I know motors and transmissions, if you lived near me id fix it. It is the clutch plate... when the pressure plate pushes the clutch wheel against the flywheel its gripping like a brake pad. Just like a brake pad, except it starts to rotate with the flywheel. When your in 1 2 3 gears and going fast it grinds right? It is because the clutch plate material that is touching the flywheel is worn down and there is metal grinding against the flywheel. You might wander why it doesnt do it all the time, its because when your reving slower it gets a better grip to the flywheel, therefore when going faster it starts to slip and causes that grinding. wheen idling it doesnt make the same grinding correct? I knoW! it is possible that other things make this noise, but i guaruntee 100% its the clutch. Because when it idles it sounds like a rotating rattling/grinding sound. And that is the material on the clutch plate spinning around tore up, it could be attatched to the plate or torn from it and hitting some moving parts. easy fix for me !!! New stock clutch around 140 bux very cheap , stage 1 clutch around 220 i think, . Do not let a mechanic trick you into thinking it is something else!!! Labor consists of removing transmission removing clutch, cleaning out debree with a air hose and regrease, replace with new clutch, replace transmission! Email me at or go to and add me and let me know who you are.... trust me ill show you my del sol pics...this is my girlfreinds email I dont have yahoo.
