Default Can a honda key, that has a chip, get damage over the years?

i have a 97 honda prelude, and that car doesn't want to start, all the lights turn on...and i don't hear any engine sounds when i turn the key.

i own a repair shop, and the keys can get damaged if there out in a pocket with loose change or something, but it rarely happens,,you can have it checked to see if its damaged by a dealer,,there may be another reason your car isn't wanting to start though you might want o get this checked out real good,,i hope this help,s..good luck with it.,,have a good x-mas.

A '97 Prelude you say? It's not the key fob that has the problem. It's the components in your engine. The engine must've had spark plug failures, what most of the classic Honda owners face... OR, it's just that the connecting port for the starter has been "dis"-connected someway somehow...

I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A MERCEDES...TAKE IT TO A KEY SHOP THAT CAN CHECK THE KEY TO SEE IF IT IS FUNCTIONAL...OTHERWISE GO TO A HONDA DEALER LET THEM CHECK IT THEY MAY HAVE TO ORDER A NEW KEY...WHICH FOR A MERC WAS 125.00...OR ELSE IT COULD BE THE WIRING HARNESS HAS A WIRE DISCONNECTED TO THE SWITCH GIVING YOU ONLY PARTIAL CONNECTION

It could be. On Camaro's and TA if the chip is damaged or wrong the fuel system will shut off for a period of time. Check the dash lights to see if there is a security light on and read the owners manual.
