what does L-88 means in corvetts?

ITs an Engine Option. I am pretty sre it was the High Performance 350. Just like and L-98,LT-1.LT-5,LS1,LS2,LS-6,LS-7. It is just a designation of the motor.

a big block 427 engine with 2- 4 bbl carbs putting out 425 hp hats off to smallbloc, he is correct, a friend of mine had 1 but it had an aftermarket intake

L-88 just means its a big block version L-82 is the small block version and this was true with the 5th generation vettes, i think it was the 5th

L-88 is Corvette RPO code for high output 427ci big block with single 4bbl. rated 430hp. almost certain its an iron headed engine. used mainly in corvettes in mid to late sixties (and maybe early 70'2?)the 435hp rated versions used by Yenko and Baldwin Motion were "Tri-power L-72" had three 2bbls(like Chrysler's Six Pak)
