Default How can I turn off my 1991 Honda Accord's "Seat Belt Alert" (beeping noise) that's malfunctioning?

My 1991 Honda Accord recently starting flashing the seatbelt alert light on the dashboard, and making a beeping alert noise, even when my seatbelts are fastened. My seatbelts are fully functional, and it seems to be a problem with just the seatbelt alert wiring. I would like to disarm the alert by disconnecting wires going to the seatbelt alert box, however, I cannot seem to find a wiring schematic that would tell me which wires to disconnect. Does anyone know which wires I need to cut? Or is there another simple solution to my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the beeping noise is really starting to get annoying!!! Thank you very much!

Check under the seat there is usually a connection there.

Find the fuse that powers the warning chime. Downside of this is that you will likely lose other features when you unplug the fuse.

You should be able to reach under the dash and find the little box that makes the chiming noise. You can then just unplug the wire harness from the box and the chiming will stop. I did this on my Miata with the door open chime. The box will be vibrating when it makes the chime. You could also locate it in a repair manual. Should be under the driver's side dash, probably close to the inner fender wall.

You can cut the wires going to the car battery. Only problem is that the car won't work after that.Or you could just ignore it.

take apart the seat belt holster where the seat belt clicks in and there will be a bunch of wires in there if you cut them it should disarm the alarm and not effect you seat belt safety but I would recommend as being a mechanic to maybe get it looked at because it could be a bad ground which would cause a problem or even a short. If you don't get it looked at you could have other electrical problems later, and trust me its not fun for a mechanic to trace a whole bunch of wires.do not try to cut or disconnect any wires or connections as you may do something involving the seat belt alone please thank you my fiance answerd for me being as a mechanicgood luck

Do not cut any wires. Under the seat, locate the wires going to the seat belt buckle. There will be a connector in that wire to facilitate removal of the seat. Unplug it.

The seat belt assembly is supposed to be under lifetime warranty from Honda. American Honda is trying to save money by making a distinction between the seat belt assembly's mechanical components (covered by warranty) and electrical components (not covered by warranty), even though the actual warranty (which I still have) doesn't make that distinction. In other words, it should all be covered for repair/replacement.

I filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm
or call 1-888-327-4236,
The NHTSA representative told me that if enough people file a complaint about the seat belt warning system, the NHTSA will make American Honda recall the part(s) as defective. If you've already repaired the seat belt, you should still file a complaint, because you can get a reimbursement for the repair if there's a recall.

The NHTSA rep also told me that I should file a complaint against American Honda with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for Honda's failure to uphold their lifetime warranty on the seat belt assembly. I did that at:
https://www.FTCComplaintAssistant.gov/

To make your warranty complaint filing easier, here's American Honda's corporate info:
American Honda Motor Company
1919 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA 90501
phone: 800-999-1009
