Hello,The A/C idle boost diaphragm is located at the rear of the carburetor on the right side (Brake Master Cylinder side)Please don't try to up the idle to compensate for the A/C going on with a screw other then the A/C idle screw.And don't adjust idle when the car has not warmed up yet. This is to avoid the car from having high idle trouble when fully warm. High idle can lead to dieseling.The A/C solenoid is on the right inner fender, should be labled with a #30 on the vacuum line which is connected to the lower plastic port on the solenoid.Vacuum line #30 is what is drawing vacuum to the solenoid. When you turn on the A/C the solenoid lets in the vacuum to the idle diaphragm. The upper vacuum line on the solenoid then transfers the vacuum to the A/C diaphragm to up the idle.Next time you turn on your A/C watch the linkage on the A/C diaphragm. The linkage should retract when you turn on the A/CIf it does the diaphragm is good.Now check the screw to make sure it is adjusted right. Turn on the A/C and adjust the screw to up the idle to the original idle speed before the A/C was activated.If you have trouble seeing the carb working with the air cleaner installed, disconnect #8 under the air cleaner and #33. then useing a vacuum cap, plug the vacuum ports on the hard lines, not on the carb air cleaner... this is to avoid a vacuum leak which would cause the idle diaphragm on the left side of the carb to ramp up the idle. Or the vacuum leak would eventually stall the motor or cause hard start and idle conditions.So plug those ports and continue with the observation of the A/C linkage to be sure it operated when the A/C is turned on inside the car. there is a chance that there could be a vacuum leak prior to the solenoid if the diaphragm does not retract.If the diaphragm does retract and the idle is raised and the screw is adjusted right there could be an "Electrical Load issue" that has to do with a battery cable, grounding wires, or Alternator poblem perhaps.
