right...any ideas? Is this a potentially hazardous situation?

Check your cv joints

It could be a few things. Could be a tie rod inner or outter going bad, or could be the ball joint, or even the cv axle. If you leave any of them too long, yes, will be very hazardous. Good luck.

It's probably a joint on the axle (I think it's the CV joint) and yes, it is a potentially hazardous situation, so get it looked at right away.

Front axle. Sounds like the rubber is torn in the CV joints. Better git it fixed too or it will definately get worse!!! It's hazardous to your pocket, for sure. But safety-wise, it's just not good for your car.

On sedans there is a wheel boot that holds the CV joint (where the shock absorber connects to the axle.) If you only hear the noise when you turn, it's most likely the wheel boot, and you should have a qualified mechanic take a peek. If you hear the noise when moving in general or when you hit a bump, it might just be a wheel weight (small weights used to balance tires when mounting them) caught inside your hubcap.

Sounds like your CV joints are getting worn. Either that or could be tie rod ends getting worn, or front bearings getting worn, or could be hitting your front struts. In any case could be dangerous. Need to have it checked out.Believe this or not but I knew an Automotive Shop teacher that had a noise in his front end. He kept putting off fixing it. Ended up on a train track because of it. Before he could get a wrecker and get it off the track. Got hit by a train totaling the car.I still laugh about that everytime I think of it.

it is very dangerous because the axle could bust at the cv joint and cause you to totally loose control,what happens is the cv boot breaks open and the grease comes out and dirt goes in and the bearings in the joint become dry and put flat spots in the walls on the joint,which gives you that clunking noise because you supply pressure on that joint when turning. hope this gives ya good info
