Default How can i fix the VTEC in my engine..?

EG8 civic 92 model automatic fuel injected....i had a problem with the engine during driving the engine shakes & moves like it a manual vehicle..the mechanic told me that it's the timing...so he time the engine & it did help the fact that when slowing down the tranny changes the gears normal.....but the vibration is still there ..so the mechanic checked the VTEC & realize that it's not working .....but when he applied current to the VTEC while reving the engine the engine runs good & the power kicks in .....he said the ECU box (brain box) is giving trouble.....well i'm wondering if the VTEC is NOT working why the check light NOT reporting this fault...? & how can i repair this ..? i need to get help fast...it's drinking alot of gas....

try changing the ECU and if your wasting alot of gas its more likely your o2 sensor is out. check your o2 sensor, i dont think anything is wrong with your vtec.

Vtec with a current is simpally activating a different timing spark. Thats the electronic componet of Vtec. Being that its Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control, with the electronic controller kicking in, which he tested which most like was good...he thought it might be the ECU from there on out. Vtec isn't just armed by wires and electronics, its the mechanical part too. One single pin is what activates Vtec when oil pressure is high. Vtec could be opened up as in "on" mechanically, so when tested, everything works fine. No check engine light either telling you about the improper air/fuel ratio. That or you could be low on oil too.

Take it to another repair shop. A non-operational VTEC system will NOT cause your problem. Certain criteria must be met before the ECU will activate the VTEC system such as engine rpm, engine load, oil pressure, etc. What the VTEC system does is it changes the cam timing, cam lift , and cam duration when activated. If it runs better with the VTEC solenoid applied, I suspect that your timing is still off. Of course, I need more info for a better diagnosis. Contact me.

check your oil levels and wires. Vtec wont activate when there is low oil pressure.
