i have the vtek motor and ecu but would like to keep the stock 16 valve harness. is this possible if i add the wire for the vtek?

it is possible. depending on the year you will also need a knock sensor wire, and vtec oil pressure switch wire in addition to the vetc solenoid wire. sometimes its just better to get the wiring harness for the motor your swapping. this way all the connectors are the same. every time you cut a wire into a harness it leads to the possibility for more problems.

its possible but its alot cheaper to buy a vtec wiring harness. i have alot of wiring harness laying around and selling them around 20-100usd depending on motor if your interested e-mail me.
