That is absolutely false!!Rotating the tires only helps to prolong the tread life on the tires as the tires that are in front wear faster and as per Honda should be rotated every 10,000 miles. As far as the differential, the fluid should be replaced at the first 7,500 mile service then again at 30, 60,90 etc. otherwise you will notice a rumbling noise or vibration when making u-turnsI sure hope that was not a mechanic that told you this other nonsense.

ive been with honda for 8 years now. never in my life have i heard a line like that. yes the only thing tires are rotated for is for proper wear of the tread. with out rotating your tires at the specified mileages they will wear unevenly. the only thng you could do with tires to harm a differential would be to put 2 differents sized tires on either sides fo the vehicle which would cause either wheel to be rotating at different speeds.
