Are turbos bad for honda civics?

Yes and no. There are right and wrong ways to turbocharge a civic. you cant just run out buy the biggest turbo you find and bolt it on. If you are not an experienced builder/mechanic your best bet is to take it to a shop where they can install and tune your car properly. But to answer your question there are kits out there that can be put on stock civic engines and cause no damage and increase performance. Depending on which motor you have i would recommend resleeving your block as most stock honda sleeves can only handle 8- 10 psi. Then install some low compression pistons. Select your choice of engine management . upgrade your fuel supply. After that you can go with some more powerful turbos.

Its possible to install a turbo on a Civic. However you should lower the compression ratio of the Civics V-TEC engine before you install the turbo. Adding the turbo and thats it can wear ou the engine itself and cause problems.

Yes, but they aren't all bad.Yes, they are bad because Honda engines generally don't like boost, especially if it is alot of it. It is usually recommended to build the internals of the engine so it can handle the boost. Adding a turbo kit will dramatically reduce the life expectancy of a Honda engine unless build properly. Although they offer excellent power gains, they are really not a proper application for a four-cylinder engine like most Honda's. Most turbochargers create their peak power somewhere in the area of 5,500 - 6,000 rpm range. This leaves only another 2,000 rpms and most Honda's are excellent for higher end power...its the low end power that is the problem. A supercharger is a much better choice, especially for a four-cylinder. It offers the low end power that Honda engines lack making a much better choice than a turbo.I recently just purchased a ProCharger intercooled/supercharger kit for my 00 Civic Si, I haven't received it, but it should be here soon. Needless to say Im pretty excited for it.
