My daughter has had one for her last year of high school and four years of college - it has about 225,000 miles on it. Other than routine maintenance, she has had no problems with the Civic - still gives great gas mileage. here is what she's had to replace in 5 years and an awful lot of miles: ignition switch, driver's door key/lock, muffler twice, brakes two or three times, major tune-up at 100K and 200K, dashboard lights about 6 months ago, tires and wiper blades, driver door "safety switch", and I think that is it - Parts have always been available and plenty of mechanics to fix itOf course, she does have it serviced regularly - oil change every 5,000 miles, flush cooling system every 70,00 miles - that sort of stuff. We definitely would buy one again.

The Si model leaves some to be desired, it's not terribly punchy at lower RPM's and isn't that fun to drive in-town. A high-revving engine like that is really at home on the track or on a truly high-speed road, which we don't really have here in the United States. Handling is reputed to be just about as good as it gets on a front-wheel drive car, though.

The good thing about the SI is that you can swap parts with any B series motor minus the 88-91 preludes. The older B16a's dont really make that much power (160hp) or torque. I think it is over-rated. Civics are nice in the sense that they are economical and parts are easy to come by. But they are also very prone to theft. Their stock suspension isnt the best in the Honda line up. S2000 is number one, but only because it's platform came from the Prelude. If you want performance go with either the new SI or the RSX. K series engine have an incredible response to your basic bolt-ons.

The new 06, 07 si is a sweet car. Among it's many pros are 200 hp engine, limited slip differential, 350 watt stereo, standard 6 speed manual, 8k rpm redline, superb handling, and Honda reliability. Possible cons are that they use premium fuel only, and are relatively hard to find. Just don't let the dealer force a markup on you-- they are in high demand and short supply.
