I have a 1997 Honda Civic 1.5i. Usually a great and reliable car.Had severeal problems with it within the last year though. (it was my fathers who passed away and stood for abit last year, until I passed my test and took it on, couldn't bear to part with it). It has had several parts replaced: battery, oxygent filter thinggys (don't ask me, don't know the technical side of cars being a woman!) and lately it doesnt seem to be as nippy, you know; doesn't seem as fast.. and getting up hills is like driving a tractor! But yet nothing has been picked up on nay tests it's had. Any mechanics out there or anyone with good car knowledge to know what might be up with her? (yes, shes a she!).Can bear to part with her... as she has huge sentimental values...

I've had Civics for many years now and one thing I've had to replace on every one of them has been the battery... The rest of your problem could mean the car just needs a tune up... Take it to a trusted mechanic and have it tuned up and replace the air and fuel filters....Hope it helps cuz they're really fun cars to drive.... Just sold my 1992 Civic LX sedan and I miss it... Still have a 1990 Civic Hatchback that's dedicated to my kids learning stage...

There could be several answers to your question....1. Fuel filter needs replacing2. The computer for the electronic injection system needs to be checked to see if there is an error code in your computer.3. The fuel injectors need to be cleaned out because the car sat around too long, and carbon from the old fuel has built up and need serious cleaning.4. You may have build up of residue of the old fuel in your petrol tank that the fuel pump might be starting to block up.I hope this will narrow down your problem, have a nice day!

could be the timing,that's something you would have to checked something you could look for is are there any splits in any of the hoses specifically the ones that go to the engine block (air hoses) the gapes on the spark plugs could be a possibility you can by manuels from places like halfords for every make and model of car you can imagine there made by a group called haynes these are really good and easy to follow, have fun

As it stood around for some time, it could be something as basic as binding brakes? Sometimes the brake (master or slave) cylinders can stick intermittently. Therefore on some days the car will be all right, on others it will be sluggish.Take the car to Honda agency - they'll almost certainly find the problem. Nice that you want to keep it, by the way.

Speaking as someone who works on his own cars as much as possible, my advice to you would be to start with the inexpensive stuff. Try replacing the air filter and putting a bottle of Valvoline Fuel Injector Treatment in the tank the next time you fill up. If that doesn't do the trick, try taking the car in to Pep Boys or one of those places for a fuel system treatment where they clean out an purge your fuel injection system -- shouldn't cost more than $100.00. If that doesn't work, you may want to invest in a tune-up where they replace the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, the PCV valve, and the fuel filter. That'll probably cost you over $200.00, but if THAT doesn't fix it then you have serious engine issues that'll probably cost more than the car is worth to fix. If you have a friend who knows at least a little about cars, have him/her do the tune-up -- it's not that complicated for someone who is at least somewhat mechanically inclined.

Stood for a bit, get a mechanic, not a service manager in a suit, a proper hands on mechanic to do a test thrash and tell you if it is OK, go with him show him how you drive, Hondas thrive on revs which is why I dont like them. driving too slow, fouling the plugs etc could cause this, as could a stuck auto advance (if your Civic has one), Other possible problem is a kinked or otherwise blocked air cleaner hose or wrongly fitted filter. The very similar Rover 400 will pick up rags etc put behind the battery and block its air intake causing this Gutlessness.Fuel system problems will sually cause it to stop and restart OK rather than lose power as you described, in my experience.

take car to very good garage and get a full service dun on it, this will include oil and oil filter change, new spark plusg, new air filter and a coupple of other things, if stil not right chang leads on spark plugs and that should do it.
