Want one for my 17th b-day, wanted to know if it could take a hard hit. My father doesn't want to buy it cause he thinks there's only fiberglass and plastic in the gray prts. So what i want to know is if it takes a good hit will everything get messed up. Including me. Like smashed up to the point where i'm screwed with insurance, and life. Also what are the gray parts made of?i have a junker now, what's a POS?! i'm a pretty good driver by the way

Tell him to goto MSN auto.com and look up the element. He'd be kind of surprised by its good safety rating. 5 stars for both frontal crashes, and green or good injury measures for passengers in all areas of concern. Good luck.The grey areas, are just plastic covers. Still full sheet metal underneath.

i own a repair shop,and actually its a poly carbonate material its made of ,,but yes it will take a hard hit ,but it will sustain a lot of damage in the process also there good vehicles but a good hard hit will do some major problems to them and there really expensive to repair also,,,you might want to look at another model or make for a first car to own this isn't the best choice there is to choose from,,good luck i hope this help,s.

Think about learning how to really drive in an old junker.

The Honda Element is a very safe small car-based SUV. It wouldn't be in production if Honda knew they'd have problems with the vehicle's structural integrity in crash situations. The gray parts you see on the element are made of the same materials used for other Hondas' front and rear bumpers, it was just not painted over to provide aesthetic relief to the bright color options available for the Element. Also, the safety features match that of my '06 Civic. There are dual dual stage airbags and side airbags available for the vehicle amongst other things.
