...else could it be? The control light is on but no power to defroster.

Somewhere along the way, the connection is broken or the switch itself is faulty. You can start by replacing the switch. If that does not work, it then becomes a matter of tracing the wiring from the switch to the defroster.

Fisrt check the grid (On rear window) to be sure there are no broken wires or contacts. Should be a contact at each end. If there is a break in the grid or a broken contact " Loctite " has a bonding agent that will repair either one. Available @ Carquest or Napa.
