stands for revolutions per minute, lets you know when to shift. usually between 3-4. but you want to keep around 2.5-3. if it gets too high and stays there too long it may blow your engine.

RPM means rotation/revolution(s) per minute, rpm is concerned to Engine whose pistion moves in rotation inside the drum , RPM is important bcoz larger the RPM larger the force it produces whic moves the wheel of your bike , or car.

RPM of a car means revolutions per minute. It tells you thatthe engine is moving how fast in terms of revolutions in oneminute. It's basically the performance of the engine that you need to know when you rev it up by looking at the odometerin the car's dashboard.

revolutions per minute. It measures how many times your engine is turning a minute. One tip: The lower the number, the better fuel mileage you'll get.

Think about it this way, it's how fast the shaft is rotating and thus how fast the pistons (cams) are moving in their shafts (cylinders). When you get too low of RPM, your engine stalls because the explosion of the fuel-air mixture isn't sufficient to move the piston, and when you have too high of RPM the cylinder moves faster than the explosion can push it so the explosion is wasted. It really depends on the car, I like to keep my RPM below 3 when driving in city (take my foot off the gas when accelerating to force my automatic to upshift and thus lower my RPM) but when accelerating on the freeway I can push it up to 5 or 6 by flooring it. Those with manual transmissions can change their RPM at will, but they also can't drive and talk on their cell phones (safely).Fuel economy depends a lot on RPM, since it's how many cycles per second the gas is pulled into the cylinder and thus how much gas you're using over a given time. Thus, it's something to keep your eye on.

The noun revolutions per minute has one meaning:Meaning #1: rate of revolution of a motor Synonyms: rpm, revIt is measured quantity of the output of a motor. See below. You can see this displayed on your cars tachometer.-----------------------------------TORQUE and RPM are the MEASURED quantities of engine output. POWER is CALCULATED from torque and RPM, by the following equation.HP (Horsepower) = Torque x RPM รท 5252An engine produces POWER by applying a TORQUE on a rotating shaft (driveshaft).A dynamometer measures torque and RPM, and from those two values calculates observed power. Then it applies various factors (air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity) in order to correct the observed power to the value it would have been if it had been measured at standard atmospheric conditions (corrected power).A few basic definitions.TORQUE is defined as a FORCE around a given point, applied at a RADIUS from that point.Note that the unit of TORQUE is one pound-foot (often misstated), while the unit of WORK is one foot-pound.POWER is the measure of how much WORK can be done in a specified TIME. --------------------------I know its a bit technical but it's correct. Hope this helps!
