Default Have a Honda Civic DX '96. Should the AC fan turn on immediately when I turn the AC on?

I can see the cooling fan turn on if I turn on the AC after a short drive but the AC fan behind the condensor does not turn on. I am getting cold air from the AC and dont notice anything else amiss. Also when the engine idles with the AC running, I can hear a click now and then after which the engine's rpm changes a bit (either goes up or down). Is this click the sound of some relay? Can this relay be bad? Also is there any other switch etc. which drives the AC fan which can go bad? Thank you for your help! :-)

No. Some cars do turn on immediately and some don't. It should turn on frequently however not immdeiately and not the entire time the a/c is on.

Yes, the fan should come on! The click you hear is the compressor turning on and off as you have climate control and once the preset temp has been reached the air cons system keeps it at that temp!

if you feel like there is something wrong with it and it is making noise that it shouldn't then you should go and get it checked out..

the click you hear is normal. it is the compressor cycling & the idle speed changes slightly as the load changes. now the bad news. the condenser fan should run when the compressor is engaged. if you watch the fan thru 2 click cycles & it doest run, theres a problem. there is a relay in the fuse box(right rear corner engine compartment.) there is a diagram, and the relay is identical to the one for the a/c clutch. you can swap them as a test. if it still wont work , look at the fuses. some have a separate fuse for the condenser fan, others use the same fuse for both fans. if not fuse or relay, fan motor is probably bad
