The new Si (which, without research, I am assuming is the 2.2 cdti) is very difficult to locate. I would recommend that you look at the 1.8. I am considering a Civic and thought that the 1.8 sounded quite puny but the forum posts I've looked at state otherwise.

Fuel consumption, kw and torque are great on the diesel.I say go diesel. Maintenance will be a little more expensive, well in South Africa anyway.

2.2 cdti is probably the best bet. smooth engine. better fuel economy. perfomance figures are virtually identical , as is the insurance. The diesel car has more torque which will give you better mid range so no need to change down a gear on steep inclines.

diesels give more mpg but it is more expensive (and so is the car I think) so from the money point of view, you gotta work out if it is worth the extra cash. That depends on how much mileage you do.also read user reviews to see if there are any common problems with either variant. I always get put off by anything with a turbo, as they are prone to blowing.
