y is the intake manifold on the 2006 civic si, faces the front of the car.?

If I remember correctly the Exhaust manifold faces the front.

Could the engine be transverse mounted ???

its the design of the new k series motor the intake is in front and the exhaust is in the back

I looked and the exhaust manifold is in the rear.

Basically it is designed that way by the brilliant engineers at Honda! You see the less bends/distance there are in an exhaust system equals more amount of airflow through the engine thus creating more power. The exhaust on the back of the K-series engine eliminates a lot of the bends and distance that the exhaust has to flow through, unlike there predecessor the B and D series engines which had the exhaust on the front side. Its really quite an exceptional design.
