Basically it is designed that way by the brilliant engineers at Honda! You see the less bends/distance there are in an exhaust system equals more amount of airflow through the engine thus creating more power. The exhaust on the back of the K-series engine eliminates a lot of the bends and distance that the exhaust has to flow through, unlike there predecessor the B and D series engines which had the exhaust on the front side. Its really quite an exceptional design.
