Default How long should my autotrans last in my 1990 honda accord. It seems to be shifting hard...

...at low speeds.? The trans shifts good under accelleration but shifts hard at low speeds. The car has 130,000 miles on it.

ur tranny is very easy toservice. a simple drain plug and 2.3 liters of tranny fluid. honda has their own atf but was not reguired this year. servfice the vehicle and while u are at it look at your front and rear motor mounts. this year the front dog bone mount available only fron the dealer, likes to go bad and then take out the rear mount. u may be fealing the shift in the motor at these low speeds. if the car shakes at idle its a dead giveaway. goodluck

Get your fluid and filter changed and if that doesn't fix the problem it probabluy wont last long.

These trans did not have a filter in them you need to change the fluid once per year and use the honda fluid it has a special additive in it to help the trans last longer.I worked for a honda dealer and we replaced those trannys all the time.
