I have an old (87) Honda Accord with a mechanical sunroof that leaks. The water doesn't fall right through as it rains, though. It collects somewhere in the roof and then rolls out and falls into the car the next time I get in and drive. The weird thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes it will rain horribly and no water collects. Other times, it will only rain a little and I'll end up with a ton of trapped water. I haven't used/activated the sunroof in two years, so I do not have any idea what variable causes the different outcomes. My question, then, is this...since I need to get another couple of years out of this car, is there some sort of durable substance that I can apply around the seal in order to make it impenetrable to water. I can live without ever using the sunroof again. Also, it doesn't matter what it looks like (the substance when dried). It can be totally ugly as long as it works. Not interested in a proper repair.

An easy fix that should work.Open the sun roof a crack, and coat the seals in heavy engine grease.Shut the sun roof, this should create a water tight seal. The cause is probably due to the seal going bad, and the leak is caused by the rubber expanding / contracting depending on the temperature outside.

well you can try using JB WELD glue on it, or GORRILA GLUE, or you can try to fix it right and replace the seal, that souldn't cost a whole lot, no more than what you'll spend glueing and replacing the glue in a years or so. Do it right the first time and you won't have to go back the second time.

please don't listen to these idiots if u need a fast easy fix go to a hardware store and buy a tube of clear silicone. u can do this one of two ways or both for better protection. open the sunroof and apply a bead along the rubber gasket about a 1/4 in. will do, first make note of where the glass and seal actually meet, then shut the roof and with ur door open, stand on the side so u can reach the top good and apply the silicone with ur finger all around the whole seem. push it into the seem as good a u can this should fix it 4 ever but will never use the roof again. or just replace the gasket which is harder to do than it sounds and is allot more expensive

you could either replace the seal on it, although i'm not sure you'd be able to find a replacement for an older car..or you could open the sunroof, put caulk or some other type of adhesive around the seal, and shut it. i would only do that if you are never planning on using the sunroof again. if you're going to resell your car, it would be worth it to get a new seal, as the new owner may want to use the sunroof.

your sunroof drain might be clogged. in the front corners on each side has holes for the water to drain down, much like a gutter. it's probably blocked off with years of accumulated debris. Using a high powered air pressure to blow out the drain should clear it out. If you don't have any access to a high powered air pressure,go to your local repair shop take care of it for you.

FORDever is probably right. Whatever you do, DO NOT use silicone on any part of a metal body. Silicone has an acid in it (the funny smell) that can actually promote corrosion. If you want to just seal it closed permanently, purchase a tube of automotive glass urethane sealant and use that.
