clutch slipping, grinding when shifting. A good test is start the car and put it in first gear and with your foot on the clutch relase untill the car starts to move, check the distance the clutch has moved. It should grab about 2 inches from off the floor.. If it doesnt your clutch is worn and needs to be replaced Another test is when driving in gear, come to a stop and shift to reverse quick, if you hear grinding, parts are worn. a new clutch is about 120$ plus $300 to put it in. But if you have some mechanic friends who can help you out have them do it.make sure your clutch fluid level is ok alsoAlso, your car might have a hydralic clutch, this type of clutch automaticly adjusts itself. If you do the tests and it looks ok, then your clutch is fine, it just re-adjusted itself. I have had my car do the same after racing.

Definately. is the car having problems starting? Does the engine rev when you change gears and not because you gave it too much gas. Does the car stall when shifting gears and not because you do not know how to drive a shift. Do you have to let it all the way out before it will grab? check your fluids, brake fluids, and all. Some newer cars have alittle container that holds transmission fluid down behind the clutch that when this is low can cause all kinds of strange behavior in a car. All signs of a failing clutch. Have it checked soon if the clutch goes the car will come to a screeching halt no matter where you are. It will just lock up.
