I got HONDA ACCORD 1996 saloon manual patrol. Few weeks back engine management light came up, I showed it to a local mechanic and he said it’s because of your EGR valve. Before that my car needs water for reradiate now and then. I took my car for 200 miles (emergency family visit) on the motorway it started stalling I got it checked and dealer told me its your head gas kit. So he changed Head Gas Kit and cam belt as well. I drove the car back and engine management light came up again. I checked the code manually it’s 12 which is for EGR valve. I get the EGR valve replaced with an other Honda but light came up again even after clearing it. So problem is not with EGR valve but something else. Car drives superb. Some one told me it could be “solenoid”. I’m not sure. I would appreciate if you could please help me with detailed answer on rmunir@hotmail.co.uk . Thanking you, Regards ..Riz

most of the time a tune up and oil change will fix it but sometimes the damn light will not go off for anything my car does that to

did u check ur fuses??? one of them might have blown...check ur oil, trans fluid, actually check all ur car fluids, start with the simple things first, a local mechanic will say it's something just to charge u money, always take ur car to someone that u can trust. if it's stalling out on you, it might be the gas filter, you might have gotten bad gas or if u ran ur car low in gas it will pick up trash in the bottom of ur tank, have ur gas filters changed...try these and goodluck.

sent the car to a HONDA service centre.a HONDA service centre have a genuine parts.

theres a valve that controls the EGR , its located on the driver's side in the engine bay inside a plastic box , connected with a vacumn hose and a electrical connector , try swapping it and see if it fixes the problem (dont remeber which one three like two or three valves in the box)

sounds like either the seloinid on the side of the engine compt. or u need to clean the egr ports in the intake manifold

You don't have to take it to Honda to get it fixed unless your local mechanic can't turn off the light. The light is just a way to make you take it to the dealer, just like the Service Required signs. Your local mechanic can reset the Service Required sign back to green from red. Its most likely a mileage issue (when your accord gets to a certain point in the mileage the service light goes on regardless of whether you need service at that point or not).
