Lots of people buy 4 wheel drive for the status, and never use it. On dry pavement you shouldn't use it really, only in snow or off road. But yeah, it's fun. Until you get stuck.

Of course it is fun! Just think abou thow much of the world is paved....? You can have the coolest Ferrari ever made, but you can only drive it on like .00000000001% of the face of the earth!4wd grants you access to a much larger peice of traversable terrain! Granted, many people don't ever use their 4wd, some only do rearely, and then im sure they are glad that they paid extra for it!For those that actually utilize what they have bought. It's GREAT FUN, but dont go buying a Honda Element or some other AWD knock-off that will leave you feeling empowered, but ultimately stuck when you get too confident in your Subaru's off-road prowerss! Only 4wd will actually go romping!

Of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially in the snow. My dad has a 2003 suburban that refuses to get stuck, & so did our 97. if u want a real off road vehicle, go with a suburban or tahoe.

All Wheel Drive is fast fun, 4 wheel drive is slow fun! what are you considering? Climbing dirt/rocks, going through water etc, or screaming through a country lane at "too fast to look at the speedo" kind of speed?I like both but they are completely different vehicles.
